CatDog Goes Trick-or-Treating CatDog NickSplat

"CatDogula" is a special Halloween episode of the Nickelodeon animated series CatDog. It was produced as the nineteenth episode of the show's third season, but was the season's fourth episode to air.

Synopsis[]

The special opens on CatDog carving a jack-o'-lantern, with Cat using a knife and Dog using a spoon. However, Dog cuts a gaping hole in the pumpkin, while Cat carves a traditional jack-o-lantern face in his side. The two then go to the living room to put on their costumes; Dog dresses as a vampire, while Cat is going as Duke Ahanamoku of Hawaii (though as a running gag, everyone thinks he is dressed as a hula girl). Right before they can go, however, they see a news report on TV about cows who have been bitten by vampires. When the cows are shown rising and coming after Randolph during his report, Dog is fearful of this, but Cat doesn't believe it, thinking it's just a well-made phony report. However, Lola (dressed as a witch) also sees the report and, looking through her binoculars, recognizes the shadowy figure up in the sky. Meanwhile, Rancid Rabbit organizes an angry mob to find and kill the vampires.

Not wanting to let the news of the vampires stop them, CatDog goes out trick-or-treating around Nearburg, amassing and consuming a huge haul of candy. After they're finished, Cat asks Dog if he wants they should take the long way home, or take a shortcut through the cemetery. Despite Dog's fear of doing so, they go through the cemetery, unaware that they are being watched by the shadowy figures Lola saw earlier - a swarm of Peruvian vampire ticks, led by the evil Nosferacho, out seeking to drink everyone's blood. While Cat gets distracted because his hula skirt came loose, Noserfacho and his minions bite Dog's neck, turning him into a vampire, but they are unable to do the same to Cat because of the garlic necklace he's wearing and promptly fly off. Cat at first doesn't realize anything has happened to his brother until he notices Dog's sudden aversion to garlic. Upon realizing that Dog has indeed turned into a real vampire, Cat fends him off with the garlic, which briefly results in Dog regaining his original personality and begging for help.

Dog then notices Rancid's mob nearby and is worried that they're after him, so Cat hides them in a nearby tree. Unfortunately, Dog is unable to keep his vampire personality in check and loudly talks about wanting to drink blood, which catches the mob's attention. As they begin attacking the tree, Dog turns into a bat (Cat remains in his normal form whenever Dog transforms) and flies out the top of the tree towards their house. On the way over, Lola shows up, and seeing that Dog has become a vampire (and is constantly shifting between his normal and vampire personalities), brings the duo to her tree. There, Lola tells CatDog about how her grandmother told her the legend of the Peruvian vampire ticks. She explains that, to change Dog back to normal, they will have to drench him in garlic juice before the twelfth stroke of midnight. Fortunately, she knows where they can get that much garlic - at the abandoned garlic factory.

Before CatDog and Lola can set off to the garlic factory, though, they find that Rancid and his mob are outside Lola's tree. However, they are then distracted when Nosferacho and his minions show up and prepare to bite the mobsters, starting with the Greasers. (After the Greasers become vampires, Eddie the Squirrel then shows up, wanting to be a vampire too, but as always, Cliff denies him.) While the vampire ticks then chase after Rancid and the other mobsters, CatDog and Lola fly to the garlic factory. However, it soon becomes apparent that Cat's garlic necklace is no longer effective at fending off Dog's vampire mindset, and Lola makes Cat eat the garlic; this causes Dog to lose consciousness, and he and Cat drop to the ground in front of the factory. However, a now-fatter Nosferacho soon catches up with them, accompanied by the now-changed Rancid, Randolph, Mervis, and Dunglap. Lola distracts the vampires to give Cat enough time to get inside the factory.

Once inside, Cat searches for garlic, but is only able to find a small piece of it. Lola, having been turned into a vampire herself, then comes after them, but Cat manages to stop her by eating the small garlic. Cat rushes up to the top floor, only to find Nosferacho and the transformed citizens with them; the Greasers then show up as well, having arrived late because Lube had to use the restroom. (Eddie appears again at this point, begging the vampires to bite his neck, but Cliff just throws him out the window.) Cat then jumps out the window himself and climbs to the top of the building. When the vampires pursue him, he is relieved to find a giant garlic at the top; however, when Cat leans his hand against the giant garlic, it falls all the way down the building. Nosferacho roars in Cat's face, causing him and the still-unconscious Dog to fall all the way down to the bottom floor.

Luckily, Cat then sees that the giant garlic landed on a giant juicing machine. After turning the giant juicer on, Cat tauntingly calls the vampires to come after him right as midnight comes. The vampires fly down into the barrel under the juicer, right where Cat wants them, but Nosferacho prepares to bite him. However, Dog regains consciousness at this point and pushes Nosferacho away, saying "Nobody's turning my best friend into a vampire! ...EXCEPT ME!!!" Dog prepares to bite Cat's neck himself, but just in the nick of time, the juicer does its job (though not before it briefly shuts off due to Lube tripping on its power cord, which he then stupidly plugs back in) and drenches all the vampires in garlic juice. Dog and everyone else are all changed back to normal, while Nosferacho and his minions are now just normal ticks. After the ticks leave, Winslow (who went out to a party dressed as a disco dancer at the beginning of the episode) shows up, and Dog tells him what happened. Winslow then complains that he was out trick or treating until "some kid in a really good wolf costume" bit his right leg earlier. Just then, the full moon comes out, causing Winslow to transform into a werewolf, scaring off everyone else.
