Monty Flips is a character from the animated series, The Invisible Man. He is one of Alan's friends and Mary's boyfriend. He is usually laid back and immature as a kid at heart. He also comes off as not being the brightest at times, but actually has more smarts than for which he is given credit. "Halloween Express" finds Monty and his friends going to the Arkham Mansion where they stay for the Halloween weekend. But after a spell is casted on him and most of the others, and they encounter an evil-doing ghost known as The Sorcerer, they have to look for the solution to get almost all of them back to their normal selves. Monty was voiced by Matthew Gèczy in the English dub.
About Monty[]
As Todd drives his company by aero car to the Arkham Mansion where they go to for the Halloween weekend, Monty is in the backseat with Linda and Gina. Monty is jealous and bitter about Todd as he tells Gina softly that he doubts that Todd agreed to take everyone on the trip to and join them at the mansion out of the goodness of his heart. He thinks Todd has an ulterior motive behind this, that he's trying to get closer to the girls. As Todd doesn't hear Monty clearly, he asks him what he said. As a cover-up, Monty claims he said that it's great that they're all together like five fingers in a glove or rather six, counting Todd. When they get to their destination, they get out of the flying vehicle as they meet Alan and his pet/sidekick monkey, Photon, who greet them. Monty comments on the haunted house before they all go inside it. As they walk through the hallway, Monty comments again, this time on how it's creepy, but has a certain charm to it. When Todd tells Linda and Mary he'll protect them should there be any ghosts around, Monty hushedly tells Alan how Todd is getting under his skin, but Alan tells Monty not to let that bother him. After everyone gets settled into the place, Monty suggests he tell a ghost story as it's not Halloween spent in a haunted house without one. He asks Todd if he'd like a marshmallow. Todd turns down the offer as he says he has to watch his figure since he's captain of his college's football team. Alan says he has to leave the room for a moment to get more firewood, so he claims. Monty's ghost story is interrupted when he and the others turn to hear, and notice what seems to be a real ghosts. He and most of the others are frightened, except Linda, doubting the ghost is real and it's just a prankster. When she removes the sheet designed to look like a ghost, a floating Jack-O'-Lantern head is revealed and she freaks. She was right about the ghost really just being a prankster as it's revealed to be Alan as he pulled off the prank with his Invisible Man get-up. While Alan finds the prank hilarious, Monty and the others aren't so amused.
Little do Monty and his friends know, there is, indeed, a real ghost in the mansion known as The Sorcerer, who is trying to escape the building, which functions like a prison for him, after he is set free from a statue. Back in another room, Monty roasts his marshmallow and asks Todd if he has a story about soccer. Todd says he has a story about the two prettiest girls (Linda and Mary) at the university and dedicates it to them. Before he can continue, he sees a large shadow of what he mistakes for a monster and is fearful. It's revealed to really be a spider, as Monty tells him as it lowers from a ceiling by its spinneret string and lands on Monty's hand. Monty takes note of Todd's fear of spiders and takes advantage. He throws the spider onto Todd's chest and Todd tries desperately, and frantically, to brush the spider off of him. Monty finds it hilarious. Mary isn't as amused, telling Monty he can be a fathead sometimes. When she mentions "fathead", Monty inflates like a balloon. After Monty calls Todd a chicken, that's exactly what the latter literally becomes and when Mary calls Gina "Little Miss Encyclopedia", Gina turns into an encyclopedia. Every time someone mentions something about someone else, someone else is transformed into the very thing that is mentioned. It's not long before The Sorcerer shows and introduces himself to the visitors as he explains that he was the one behind their transformations as a result of the spell he casted on them. After Photon tries to attack The Sorcerer, but misses due to going through him, Photon gains the ability to speak. Monty says this is more than his "camera" (sight) can take and that he's getting hungry. The Sorcerer leaves the guests to themselves while they discuss what to do about him. When Gina asks Linda to stop being so hyperactive after the latter mentions leaving to get more portable vacuum cleaners and Gina tells her it would be better if they stuck together to work as a team, Linda ends up doing cartwheels uncontrollably. Gina is sarcastically thanked by Linda for that.
Everybody goes through the hallway again, then upstairs to the mansion's library. Monty comments on how the room full of books is so boring. Alan tells him and the others to be quiet so they don't draw attention to The Sorcerer. Linda wonders what's gotten into him as normally he's so indecisive and disappears whenever there's danger. When she mentions "disappears", that's what Alan's head does. They meet with The Sorcerer who tells them to give up on trying to stop him as it's futile. Alan uses a portable vacuum to suck up and trap The Sorcerer. After The Sorcerer begs to be let out of it, that's what Alan does after he and everyone else goes back outside, but when The Sorcerer is expelled from the vacuum, it turns out it was just a ruse, and he flies away to wreak havoc in downtown Magnapolis. Following a chat Alan and Photon have with each other, most everyone head back to the aero car to put a stop to The Sorcerer's fiendish plan. Since Monty is too big to fit in the vehicle now, he has to stay behind to look after Todd and someone needs to keep an eye out for the specter should he return. Monty is disappointed, but Alan tells him it can't be helped.
Once everyone manages to get The Sorcerer to follow them back to the mansion by luring him with Gina as a book to let him think it's the spell book he's been searching, The Sorcerer seemingly has what he wants. He says he must return to the mansion before realizing that's just where he already is. The plan may have worked, but he tells the guests that now they'll be imprisoned as well. Monty says that may be so, but laments that he's still fat. Since the original idea to conquer The Sorcerer didn't work, Alan has another idea and whispers it in Monty's ear. Monty tells Mary how her beauty reminds him of the sun's rays. Mary's body literally illuminates, rays of light emit from her and they shine on The Sorcerer who is finally vanquished. The spell wears off and everyone is reverted to normal. As everyone exits the mansion once more as they watch the sun rise, Mary tells Monty his compliment really moved her.
