Mr. Caifas is a character and antagonist from the series, Nico. He is Nico's elderly, curmudgeonly, quite wealthy neighbor. He's not a kid person and even more than that, he's also prejudiced towards Nico, and other blind people. Often, he comes up with ways to try to get Nico and his family to move away from his neighborhood. In "The Ghost Story", Nico, Tom, Patty, Aisha, and Oscar enter Mr.Caifas's mansion to take a look inside of it out of curiosity one Halloween night.
About Mr. Caifas[]
Mr. Caifas is shown going to one window in an upstairs room of his mansion to look out of it. Flappy, who is in a cage suspended by a rope up a tree after stepping into a trap, lets Nico and the others know he's coming, and they go off to hide. Mr. Caifas comments that Halloween is stupid and there'd better not be any kids coming to his home for trick-or-treating. When he goes downstairs to enter his kitchen, he catches Oscar in there and he chases after him before being struck in the behind by a lightning cloud in the kitchen, and his rear is on fire. Then, Mr. Caifas finds Tom and Oscar in another room downstairs and begins to use a net on them, but before he can, a ghost named Maria Theresia von Paradis uses her powers to make him dance, causing his feet to move rapidly. After appearing when hearing Oscar mention blind people can't do anything, Maria takes them and Tom back into her past to show them just how wrong Oscar is. Back in the kitchen, several pieces of kitchenware are alive and floating as they attempt to attack Mr. Caifas. He threatens them with using a broom, but a spoon hits him on the head and he calls it a traitor. While the kitchenware continue to pester him, smoke is expelled from a kettle's spout and it's another ghost, a male one. Mr. Caifas fearfully shudders and begs the spirit to leave him be. The spirit disputes the blind being a burden. The ghost, named Long Capaceous, also takes Nico, Tom, and Oscar into his past to prove what people like he was, blind, can do. After the three return, Oscar, who saw a floating head of a statue of Tom, which turned into Mr. Caifas, grabs him by the collar, demanding to let him out of there. Mr. Caifas thinks it's all a nightmare he's having and flees the kitchen in a panic.
Later, Mr. Caifas is at a computer searching for a ghost catcher to get rid of the supernatural beings. He then finds the three again as Oscar offers Nico to him. As there's a sudden flash of light, Oscar jumps into Mr. Caifas's arms in fright. It's a second male ghost, named Lewis Flory. After Mr. Caifas and Oscar run into another room and the spirit enters it, he demands he leave his house. Lewis then takes Nico and Tom into his past to show just what he was capable of despite being blind. Once they return, Mr. Caifas cowers and vows not to be mean to the blind anymore before running upstairs as he shouts that he hates ghosts.
When Mr. Caifas returns once more, this time, coming out of a cellar and armed with a machete, which he threatens to wear Tom and Oscar down so thin, they "won't be able to scratch", a third male spirit appears after flowers and shrubbery grow suddenly out of nowhere for yet another comment Oscar made about the blind. The third male ghost stops Mr. Caifas by removing his hat to send a swarm of bees after him and he's chased off as they surround his head, and sting him. After Nico and Tom are brought by the third male ghost into his past to provide evidence of what he could still do in spite of his blindness, the former two are returned once more. Mr. Caifas is still trying in vain to flee the bees as he vows again not to be so mean to the blind anymore.
