Sara Crewe (Sera Kuru in Japanese) is a character from the drama anime series Princess Sara. Her father, Capt. Ralph Crewe, ran a diamond mine in the British Raj and due to this, she is nicknamed The Diamond Princess. Later, following her upbringing in India, she moves to London where she attends Miss Minchin's seminary to learn how to become a proper lady. She became motherless when she was 4 and since she has been cared for all her life, she is unsophisticated when it comes to the ways of the world. Despite this, Sara is a kind-hearted and generous young lady who always helps others and she uses her intelligence and imagination to make the best of bad situations. One of the students, Lavinia Herbert, is her rival and she is at odds with her. On her birthday, she gets the bad news that her father has also died. Things take even more of a downturn after she becomes poor as a result of bankruptcy and Miss Minchin has her working as a servant without pay at the seminary. Regardless, on the inside, she still feels like a princess. Following the Halloween episode and constant bullyings, she was expelled from the seminary when she was accused of arson. She stayed with her friend, Peter, then with her dad's friend, Tom Carrisford, who takes on the role of her legal guardian. The bankruptcy gets cancelled and Sarah's wealth is reinstated.

Sara scoops up and throws coal into a fireplace on Halloween morning at the seminary while Miss Minchin's class has a session. Sara drops by the class after she sees one of the younger girls, Lottie, raising her hand to answer what tomorrow is, but admits she forgets. To remind her, Sara quietly hints that it's All Saint's Day. Lottie gives the answer and winks at Sara knowingly. After Ermengarde answers that today is Halloween, Miss Minchin gives Sara and her fellow maid friend, Becky, a list of items that are required for the party to James and Molly. But rather than James and Molly going out to shop, Sara and Becky volunteer to do that for them instead. They allow the girls to go to Covent Garden, but Molly tells them not to socialize with their friend, Peter. From afar, Ram Dass and Sara's late dad's friend, Tom, watch the two leave and they want to do a nice thing for Sara. They speak with the shop owner who sold a doll (later named Emily) to Sara. They request the shop owner to prepare a care package for her. But say it mustn't be revealed who it's from, as they want to commit the good deed without her knowledge.
When Sara and Becky arrive at Covent Garden, they see Peter there and interact with him anyway in spite of Molly's order not to do so. Hearing about what's going on with them, Peter offers to help. He gets them several pumpkins and once they're collected, he's thanked for his help before they go their separate ways. Sara and Becky return to the seminary with the Halloween party supplies. While in the kitchen, James and Molly tell Sara and Becky to carve out walnuts into the shape of boats that are to be used in one of the party games. Lavinia invites Sara and Becky to partake in a game that involves the walnut boats as a ploy to get Sara's walnut boat to sink so that Lavinia can win. But it doesn't go quite as planned, as when Lavinia tries creating ripple effects in the water, hers ends up sinking. Sara and Becky's walnut boats sail next to each other, signifying the good fortune of them having a lifelong friendship, leaving Lavinia dismayed. Back in the kitchen, James and Molly announce to the girls that they're going out to the theatre and the girls tell them to have a good time. When it's time for the last game of the night, which has to do with carving out pumpkin faces to turn them into Jack O'Lanterns and filling them with candles to shine light on spirits, Sara finds Lottie who is sad. She asks her what's the matter and Lottie says she has difficulty carving pumpkins. Sara does the favor of carving it for her. When the party is done, Sara and Becky clean up before taking Lottie upstairs and they bid each other good night.
As Sara comes downstairs, Becky asks her if she smells something burning. Sara realizes it's coming from the barn where she and her doll, Emily, stay. Fearing for Emily's safety, Sara dashes to the barn while Becky follows. The barn catches fire after Lottie drops her lit Jack O'Lantern after being frightened as a result of a prank by Lavinia and her followers, Jessie and Gertrude. Despite Becky telling Sara not to go in there, she bravely does anyway to rescue her doll. But they end up getting trapped and surrounded by the flames, at this point, their fate is unknown.
