"Trick or Treat" (onscreen as "The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat") is a Halloween-themed episode of the Nelvana animated television show The Berenstain Bears. The episode itself is based on Stan and Jan Berenstain's storybook of the same name.
Summary[]
Brother and Sister Bear are preparing to go trick-or-treating without their parents supervising for the first time. They plan to avoid visiting the home of old Miz McGrizz Widder Jones, whom they think is a witch. But when Too-Tall and his gang drag them into participating in a Halloween prank they're planning to pull on her, the cubs learn that appearances can be deceiving.
Characters' costumes[]
- Brother Bear: Monster
- Sister Bear: Ballerina
- Freddy: Pirate
- Lizzie Bruin: Vampire
Differences from the book[]
- In the books, Widder Jones was named Miz McGrizz.
- The book did not have the episode's opening scene with Brother and Sister walking around town discussing their Halloween plans.
- In the book, Lizzie dressed as a skeleton instead of a vampire. Also, Queenie McBear was also part of the group, dressed as the Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
- The kids meeting Miz McGrizz in the book played out differently from how it does here; there, all the cubs, including Too-Tall and his gang, were led inside to see the candy apples she had prepared. She also did not actually dress as a witch like Widder Jones does here.
- Since Too-Tall and his gang came inside to be given candy apples along with Brother, Sister, and their friends in the book, they did not receive the karma they get in this version.
- The book did not have the ending gag of Papa going out to trick-or-treat for candy apples himself.
