The Angry Beavers - Meeting Oxnard Montalvo (S2 E13) - Paramount+
"The Day the World Got Really Screwed Up!" is a special Halloween-themed episode of the Nickelodeon animated series The Angry Beavers, and notably the series' only full-length half-hour episode. It is the tenth episode produced for its second season and premiered on October 26, 1998. Series creator Mitch Schauer, who wrote the episode, has mentioned it is one of his personal favorites.
Synopsis[]
On October 30th of "last year", an alien meteor crashes into a backyard on the hillside. A man comes outside to investigate when some beams of light come from the meteorite zap him, brainwashing him.
Meanwhile, Daggett and Norbert are out trick-or-treating despite it being one day early. Daggett thinks it's a brilliant idea because all the houses will have lots of candy and there will be no other trick-or-treaters to compete with, but Norbert doesn't think so, saying they haven't gotten any candy all night. Daggett tells his brother that he'll give up on the plan if the next house they come to doesn't turn out to be more than they expect. Of course, the next house they come to (which is the one seen at the beginning) is the spookiest-looking one in the neighborhood. However, Norbert sees that this is the residence of his and Daggett's favorite movie star, Oxnard Montalvo, and he realizes they can get his autograph. The Beavers wander inside the house and find that there's a whole museum of statues of the monsters from Oxnard's movies, not noticing the statues coming alive after they pass by them. The Beavers are soon greeted by Oxnard's servant, Mann Servante (the man from the beginning of the episode). The Beavers ask Servante to take them to meet Oxnard, but then Norbert gets tangled up with his Oxnard Montalvo mask. As Daggett tries to help untangle his brother, Servante, under orders from his alien master, tries to zap the Beavers with his eye beams, but Daggett accidentally smacks him and causes him to fall down the stairs, taking Dag's trick-or-treat bag with him.
Daggett and Norbert head downstairs to pick up Dag's trick-or-treat bag, only to then come upon Oxnard Montalvo himself, who, accompanied by Toluca Lake and Dr. Cowtiki, is looking at a strange phenomena (referring to the activity coming from the meteor). The Beavers, needless to say, are all too excited to meet their favorite movie star. Suddenly, the now-sentient statue of the creature from Claws of the Immortal Golan (the only film in Oxnard's filmography that Daggett and Norbert haven't seen) stomps in, having been sent there by Mann Servante, who ordered it to destroy the humans and bring the Beavers to his master. However, the Golan steps on Daggett's tail, triggering him into destroying it.
Dr. Cowtiki then tells the group that they're all in the middle of a big pickle ("Picture the biggest gherkin you've ever seen. Then magnify it a thousandfold.") and shows them a film explaining the situation. It seems that the meteor is actually an evil alien object that was released through a rip in time and has come to Earth to feed on the thoughts of the people around it... including the Beavers, who have been remembering the monsters from Oxnard's films. Outside, the Alien Object, who has been getting its power increased from the Beavers' thoughts, proceeds to transform Oxnard's house and the humans grayscale (the Beavers and everything outside remain in color) as the monsters bust in to the room, essentially turning their reality into one of Oxnard's movies.
While Oxnard and Dr. Cowtiki stay behind to fend off the monsters, the Beavers and Toluca make a run for the exit (during which Toluca keeps tripping and injuring her ankles). However, as soon as they get outside, they find themselves being attacked by Kilo (a giant dragon from one of Oxnard's films), forcing them back inside. They then come face-to-face with the still-brainwashed Mann Servante, who gloats to them that the Alien Object is indeed feeding off of the Beavers' imagination. As he's gloating, however, Toluca shuts him up by stuffing a monster mask on his head, allowing her and the Beavers to escape. The Alien Object, which is now currently under the house, reaches up inside it, causing the stairs that the Beavers and Taluca are running down, to drop all the way back to the lab. Servante somehow made it there too, again gloating that the Beavers will soon be trapped in this dimensional reality of madness. Dr. Cowtiki tells Oxnard to hit Servante with his Mindulator device, which he does... by throwing it right at Servante. Despite Nobert pointing out how stupid that was, it does indeed free Servante from the Alien Object's control. The Alien Object then proceeds to further wreck Oxnard's house, trapping the humans while the Beavers flee with the Mindulator. Oxnard then gets a phone call from General Warning; after Oxnard confirms that his house has indeed become a hotbed of extraterrestrial activity, the General sends out as much of the military as he can to combat the alien.
Meanwhile, Daggett and Norbert crawl out of the wreckage to find the Alien Object boasting that it can't be stopped. However, the Beavers challenge the Object's claim and use the Mindulator to plow their way through the monsters protecting it. After the Alien Object calls Kilo for protection, Norbert then uses Daggett's tail as a catapult to throw the Mindulator into the Alien Object's motherboard, destroying it and making it spit outs its now-dead batteries. All the color returns and the monsters revert to being ordinary statues, with Kilo crashing down into General Warning's military base (the general then orders his men to fire missiles at it, unwittingly wrecking his base). As Oxnard and Dr. Cowtiki try to surmise what just happened, Toluca asks what happened to Mann Servante. The Beavers answer that there was no Mann Servante, with Daggett providing a film explaining why (which the viewer doesn't see). Feeling pretty satisfied about having saved their hero, the Beavers leave. As the credits roll, the narrator complains about how nonsensical this story was, and when the Nicktoons closing logo comes up, Daggett realizes he and Norbert forgot to ask for Oxnard's autograph.
